This time I didn't make a new dance show that they could perform with.
Reason: First of all they allready made one there selves and the result is quit nice.
But also, because I wanted to see if I could rise the level op hiphop dancing so I could estimate their level of difficulty before I start making the choreography for the show that we will do in July 2009.
So I learned them some difficult choreographies and started evaluating them.
I have to say, some of them were quite able of doing this diffucult routines.
Others had more problems.
Antoher point of interest is the quantity of dancers.
As I heard they splitted again since my last visit in March 2008.
This is ofcourse a disadvantage for me, cause every time that I come back, I have new dancers to work with. Now, as I heard from Dirk D'hoe it is the intention of building on a local hiphop crew.
Now, as I leave South-Afrika, a lot of the dancers also leave the team. And then when I come back, they also come back.
That is not the way danspunt wants it and definitely NOT the way I want it. So I said to Matthews (who is in charge while I am away) that the 13 dancers that went to my workshops are the ones they have to stay with.
No new guys, except 2 or 3 new girls. NO MORE!
Otherwise it is impossible for this project to keep growing, cause almost everytime I come back, I have to start from scratch all over again. And the groups of dancers that are practising now, are very good.
And we should keep it that way. So please make sure that no new guys come in the crew, except when others leave. About the girls: we need 2 or 3 more girls.
What is very important when you add new dancers to the crew, is that the characters also fit. Otherwise they will definitely split again. Please keep that in mind.
Last point is Ntatho, the local hiphop choreographer that took over while I was gone. Some of the dancers don't want him, others do. But I think it is in their advantage if there is a local choreographer for them, even if it is ntatho or somebody else. So please continue his contract, but no more than 2 times a week. Cause I think it is very good that they keep making their own choreographies, so they stay or get even more creative.
With regards,
Steve Burggraeve
